About Rye College

Welcome to Rye College

We are delighted to welcome you to our website which gives you a flavour of our work.

We have a growing reputation for bringing out the best in young people of all abilities. We encourage our students to be proud of their own and of one another’s achievements.

Our College is small, in an attractive rural setting; a place where students can feel safe and have space to learn, where they are known as individuals and where their talents are nurtured.

As a specialist College for the Arts, we are growing from strength to strength. We seek ways of bringing learning alive, developing creativity and the confidence to face any challenge.

Our College has a century long tradition on its current site. We ensure that today’s learners have the very best opportunities for success in the 21 st Century, having regard for traditional values: trust, honesty, respect and loyalty. Rye College provides learners of 11 to 16 years of age, with a unique experience; a place where tradition meets with innovation.

We hope to meet with you and share our achievements with you.

Being safe

Our College is small enough for every student to be known and recognised for the unique contribution they have to make.

A family atmosphere characterises College life. Our students belong to Houses with tutor groups arranged across year groups so that they become true family groupings. Good, positive, supportive relationships exist between students, with senior students accepting responsibility for mentoring and supporting younger students.

Our tutors act as mentors, getting to know their students well and are a first point of contact with parents on all matters – social and academic, which affect the student’s well being.

We have high expectations of attitudes and behaviour which are well respected by our students themselves. It is to their credit that our students care about one another and take a pride in one another’s achievements.

Belonging

We want our young people to feel proud to belong to Rye College.

We have an active Student Council that takes on responsibility for College improvement. They work with teachers to look at ways of enhancing learning and teaching. We are keen to develop our student leaders as peer mentors, mediators, coaches and ambassadors of our College in the community.

Our students are encouraged to play an active role in College life and benefit from a wide range of enrichment activities, including sport, drama, music, dance, publishing, photography and film making. Residential visits in the UK and abroad include camping, water sports activities, abseiling and skiing. All of these activities help students to develop teamwork, trust in one another and friendships that endure beyond their time with us.
