How do I remember?
- Pod – Downloaded onto an iPod (or similar device)
- Cast - Broadcast
A podcast is a short recording, usually part of a series. The recording could be audio or video.
Why?
You know those journeys into work where you are fed up with the radio or your music collection? Why not listen to someone / people rambling on about a topic or event (like the staffroom in your pocket!), playback of a music show, a comedy program etc.?
How?
You will need an MP3 playing device like an MP3 player (!), iPod or smart phone and some way of connecting it to the internet or a computer.
Podcasts often require particular software to collect and download them, but can usually also be downloaded directly from a website. You can either download the podcast directly onto your MP3 device if it is internet enabled or onto a computer and then transferred via a cable or similar.
Financial warning!!!
If you download directly onto your smart phone make sure you are using a wireless connection – the files can be quite large and you may incur costs if you download via your phones internet connection.
For iPods / iPhones
- Click on the iTunes app
- In the bottom right corner click on the 3 dots (more) button
- Click Podcasts
- Click on the categories button at the top
- Choose a series of podcasts
- Download a couple from each series that look interesting
- Listen to the podcasts
- Download more
- Repeat as desired
If you get stuck, ask your son / daughter to help you.
