School nurse
College life provides many challenges and pressures, managing every day issues in a positive way is vital to keeping healthy both physically and emotionally. Your school Nurse is a "listening ear" who offers an open door service to discuss anything that worries you. This is a confidential service she will not tell anyone of your visit unless you want her to. However if you tell her something that makes her think you are in danger of harm she will have to tell someone but she will discuss it with you first.
Services offered
Bullying
If you are being bullied tell her about it and she will be able to talk through some strategies you could use to help reduce it.
Weight worries
If you are concerned about your weight or height she can take accurate measurements of both and give you help and support regarding healthy eating, weight loss or weight gain.
Vaccinations
Students are no longer offered a BCG vaccination. In September 2008 all year 8 girls will be offered the HPV vaccine which is a course of 3 injections given at college. If you would like more info regarding this go and see the school nurse.
Health worries
She will give you the opportunity to discuss in an informal and friendly atmosphere any health concerns you have. A time for you to think about your own health.
Drop in sessions
The Nurse is in school every Thursday and available for you to 'Drop in' and discuss any worries or concerns you might have, again this is confidential.
Smoking Cessation
If you are a smoker and want to give up she can help you with support and encouragement and can issue nicotine replacement therapy if needed.
So where is she?
She can be found in the small office outside the head of houses room, (up the stairs at the end of the maths corridor).
When is she is college?
She is in most Thursdays. If you are not in college that day but would like to see her just let pupil services know or your Head of House and they will arrange for her to come in another day to see you.
How can she be contacted?
She is based at Ferry Road Health Centre in Rye and can be contacted on 01797 222640 or you can leave a message for her at pupil services.
