Vocational?
One of the options in year 9 is the vocational pathway. This option is for students who have a clear picture in their mind of what they would like to do when they are older, usually some sort of trade.
Courses?
For 2012-2014 we will be offering three vocational choices, with excellent providers. These will be Agriculture based at Plumpton, and the Arts Award or General Construction at Entertainment Workshops.
This year
The current year 10 vocational students are on either on the construction course at Sussex Coast College (Ore, Hastings), agriculture at Plumpton (Netherfield) or at the Entertainment Workshop (Rye Harbour) studying sound and video.
Who?
Due to financial restrictions we can only send a few students out on vocational courses. Also, choosing the vocational pathway reduces the number of qualifications a student can achieve at Rye College so it's usually students who know they want to be in the industry they are studying (e.g. a builder in the construction industry).
In most cases, students will have already been signposted towards the vocational route, through discussions with Learning Managers, Assistant Principals etc.
Sounds good?
Speak to Mrs. Starkey, Learning Manager of 14-19 pathways if you interested in choosing a vocational course.
Above all you MUST BE SURE you want to do a vocational course, once you have started you WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DROP THE COURSE. You will have missed out on too much of other courses / GCSE subjects to be able to switch courses and catch up or those students who would benefit from some time out of school in a different environment to help them succeed.
