Rye College is part of the East Sussex Careers Hub

Their mission is to inspire and prepare young people for the world of work. The Hub brings together 40 secondary schools, colleges and special schools, 24 primary schools, alongside employers and other partners. East Sussex Careers Hub is one of 40 across the country and is co-funded by the Careers and Enterprise Company and East Sussex County Council. Careers Hubs are key to the Government’s aims to improve careers education.

An important focus of the Hub is the Enterprise Adviser Programme.  This uses employers to support pathways into industry and shape young people's futures. The programme helps bridge the gap between the world of work and education, working with the Careers Leader and wider senior leaders of the school or college to create opportunities for young people.

We are very privileged to have recently been matched with General Dynamics. This promises to be an exciting partnership, with a particular focus on STEM.

We are delighted to introduce our Enterprise Adviser - Imogen Steer.

"Growing up in the local area and being alumni of Rye College, I am keen to provide support to the schools in East Sussex, particularly Rye College, to show the variety and diversity of careers available to young people. I am a champion of Careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), being an engineer myself, and have been active in outreach to schools to raise awareness of the careers within those fields, and in wider business.

I am particularly keen to see more young women choosing a career in a STEM field, and like to think that I make a good role model, showing that engineering is not just for boys.  Like many young people, my careers aspirations changed regularly, but I discovered engineering was for me during my Fashion designer phase. I ended up sewing and programming lights into all my creations, and realising that I loved doing it.

My degree in combined engineering at Coventry University opened a whole new world of careers to me, and my love of Aircraft and fast jets brought me to General Dynamics and back to Hastings".
