Staying Safe Online - Digital Safety

At Rye College, we recognise that the internet is an essential tool for learning, creativity, and communication - but it is also constantly evolving and can sometimes feel overwhelming. To support our students and their families, we have brought together a range of helpful resources, including guidance and  links  on how to stay safe online and where to go for advice. Please use the links below to access information tailored for both students and parents.

If a student has any concerns they should speak to their Mentor,  the Student Hub team or one of our Designated Safeguarding Officers.

Tips to Stay Safe Online

Think before you post.
Only share content you’d be comfortable for your parents, carers, teachers, or future employers to see. Once something is online, you can lose control of it—especially if others screenshot or share it.

Keep personal information private.
Avoid sharing details such as your full name, address, phone number, date of birth, or school. Check your privacy settings regularly, and remember that even small clues—like a school logo in a photo—can reveal more than you think.

Be aware of scams.
Phishing is when someone tries to trick you into giving away personal information, such as passwords or login details. Never click on links in messages or emails that ask you to sign in or share information, even if they look genuine. If you need to log in, go directly to the official website or app.

Know who you’re talking to.
People online aren’t always who they say they are. Even if you feel you trust someone you’ve met online, never share personal information such as your address, full name, or school.

Keep your devices secure.
Make sure your phone, tablet, or computer has the latest updates and security features. Protect your information by using passcodes and being cautious about what you download.

Never share your passwords.
Keep your passwords private even with friends. Choose strong passwords that are easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.
